Dear Lemon Grove Academy Elementary Students and Families,
Welcome to the 2018/19 school year! We are so excited to begin what promises to be another year full of learning and fun at Lemon Grove Academy Elementary. As a school community, we continue to focus our endeavors on the academic, social, and emotional growth of our students. We accomplish this through engaging lessons and support as students strive towards mastery of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and grow to become successful members of a global community. This year, we will implement a new English Language Arts curriculum to better serve the needs of our students. We look forward to working with you as partners in achieving these goals this year. As you plan the next couple weeks you will want to pay close attention to the following dates and times:
August 10th Office Opens (Enrollment hours 8:00 – 2:30 p.m.)
August TBD Preschool Orientation (9:00-11:00 or 12:30-2:30 at Library)
August 21st Kindergarten Orientation (1:00 p.m. in the auditorium)
August 21st Class Lists posted at 5:00 p.m. at the front of the school
August 22nd First Day of School
August 22nd – 29th Kindergarten Assessments – Kinder students released at 12:50
Our school hours remain the same as they did last year with school starting at 8:15 and ending at 2:40. Students and families are encouraged to come out and get the day started on the right foot with the morning physical activity program. Physical activity stations take place from 7:40 to 8:10 every morning. Students who arrive to school prior to 8:00 will be expected to participate.
Staff and I have been working very hard to provide an exceptional learning experience for your child. Teachers consistently plan engaging lessons that integrate technology and provide opportunities for students to master the Common Core State Standards. After school classes will provide extra learning opportunities for intervention and enrichment.
We are committed to making Lemon Grove Academy the center of our community Our free health clinic, in collaboration with UCSD’s School of Medicine, provides medical evaluations for families and dental screenings and care for our students. Additionally, the school pantry program offers healthy foods free of charge to families bi-weekly.
I encourage you to be a part of the amazing things that are happening on and around Lemon Grove Academy. You can attend Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), School Site Council, and/or English Language Advisory Committee meetings. We also encourage you to volunteer in your child’s classroom, join other parents during our Friday Volunteer Day or help out with the many school events and community service days. We assure you that you will enjoy being a part of the backbone of our school, our incredible parent volunteers.
Lemon Grove Academy is not a typical school; rather, it is a fast paced school with many programs and events. Every Wednesday, we send out a weekly newsletter. We encourage families to anticipate receiving this and to create a place for it to be posted in your home every week. This will help ensure that your family does not miss out on any of the events.
